What other services does the practice offer?

chdAnnual medical reviews for people with longterm illness
We offer these appointments around the time of your birthday. This includes people with diabetes, respiratory disease, hypertension, heart disease, epilepsy, mental health problems and thyroid disease. Annual reviews are also available for all patients over the age of 75 years at their request.

What if I am under 75 years and have no health problems?
You may like to take the opportunity to have a health check every five years. High blood pressure and diabetes can be detected by health checks before symptoms start to develop.

Minor surgery
All partners in the practice perform minor surgery. Some minor skin problems can be treated without the need for hospital referral.

Cervical Cytology (Smear tests)
We recommend all women between the ages of 25 and 65 years have regular smear tests. The Health Authority, on our behalf, operates a "call and recall" system to remind you of this. You will be offrered smear tests every 3 years until the age of 50, then 5 yearly until you reach 65 years of age.

Family Planning and Sexual Health

pregnantAntenatal and Postnatal Care
Preconceptual advice is available from doctors and midwives. We recommend that you confirm planned pregnancies with a home pregnancy test. Following this you should arrange a booking appointment via reception with a midwife. Your midwife will plan your antenatal care with you. For uncomplicated pregnancies your care is provided in the practice.

The midwives hold antenatal and relaxation clinics weekly. Your midwife will visit you at home after your baby's birth. Your Health Visitor will also visit you and arrange postnatal support. The Health Promotion England book “From Birth to Five” is also a useful resource for parents This is available online at www.dh.gov.uk search for “Birth to Five”

Your babies first immunisation appointment at 8 weeks of age will be combined with a check by one of the doctors. The Health Visitors undertake routine surveillance of babies and children under school age at other times. You can contact your Health Visitor directly 01535 655123

School children
Your child's school nurse has links with the Health Centre. She is concerned to promote healthy living and to prevent ill health in school age children. For primary school children contact 01535 655123. For children at secondary school contact the school for the phone number of the attached nurse.

Steeton Pharmacy
Steeton Health Centre has a pharmacy on the site of its premises. Martin Cant (Community Pharmacist) works with the doctors to achieve safe and effective prescribing.


What other Services are Available?

Pharmacist
Ask your pharmacist for advice regarding medicines for common ailments. Remember to tell the pharmacist if you are taking any other medication- some medicines are not compatible.

Chiropodist
NHS chiropody is available at Silsden for those who qualify for treatment, Appointments are made via Keighley Health Centre 01535 295653

Drug and Alcohol problems
We recommend the services available from Henry Street and Project 6 in conjunction with any support that we offer from the practice

Counselling
Counselling is available in a limited capacity at Silsden Health Centre. You can also access counselling direct form VERSA

Carer's Resource
Support for carers is available via the practice. Information is available from reception as well as from the doctors and nurses.
